Increased Virulence of Descending Thoracic and Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysms in Women

A retrospective review was performed of the Aortic Institute at Yale-New Haven Hospital between 1990 and 2018. Of 907 patients with descending thoracic/thoracoabdominal aortic sizes, excluding those connective tissue disease, mean diameter 4.1 cm in men (68%) 4.8 women (32%). The median radiologic follow-up ∼3 years each subgroup. growth rate significantly greater (0.25 cm/year) than (0.17 cm/year). Dissection, rupture, death, or a combination three occurred twice as frequently for (5.8%) (2.3%). thoracic >5.0 associated higher composite endpoints dissection, death (33%) (26%). Women diagnosed aneurysms have faster aneurysm rates men. should be considered intervention thoracoabdominal possibly smaller diameters 5.5 to 6.0 cm.
